How to Get the Most Out of Your Brakes

How to Get the Most Out of Your Brakes

Try out these tips to help extend the lifetime of your car’s brakes.

While there’s no hard rule regarding how often you should change your car’s brakes, it’s possible that you are replacing them too frequently.  If you feel like you have to replace your brakes too often, then there are things you can do to improve their longevity and functionality.  Tyr out these tips to make your brakes last longer.

  • Slow Down

The faster you are driving, the more pressure you place on your brakes when you hit them.  That’s why one of the easiest ways to make your brakes longer is by reducing your speed.  For example, when you know that you will have to stop soon, take your foot off your accelerator.  This will allow your car to slow down without having to hit your brakes.  When you do apply them, there will be far less strain on them.

  • Don’t Overuse Them

Many drivers have bad habits that place unnecessary strain on their brakes.  For instance, many drivers ride their brakes when they are going downhill or when they are trying to maintain a constant speed.  In fact, some drivers even brake at the same time they are trying to accelerate.  If you are guilty of any of these behaviors, then you are wearing down your brakes at a much faster rate.

  • Change Your Brake Fluid

As time passes, water can seep into your brake fluid.  This diluted brake fluid can cause your entire braking system to corrode.  This in turn can negatively affect your brakes functionality and longevity.  To prevent this issue from happening, you should change out your brake fluid every two years or so.  This simple maintenance task will help your brakes last longer and perform better.

Try out these tips to help your car’s brakes last longer.  Remember, another way to take care of your car is by getting it covered with comprehensive auto insurance.  To find the right policies to fit your needs, contact the team at Moser Group Inc. in New York.  Our knowledgeable professionals are ready to get you covered today.

Hacks to Help You Foster Workplace Wellness

Hacks to Help You Foster Workplace Wellness

Try out these tips to help promote employee wellness at your business.

If you run a business, then you know that healthy, happy employees can be your business’s biggest assets.  However, how can you encourage your team to embrace healthier behaviors?  Here are some tips to help you promote employee wellness in your place of business.

Lead by Example

There’s no point in encouraging healthier behaviors when you live an unhealthy lifestyle.  If you want to persuade your employees, then you have to prove to them that you are also invested in being healthier.  This means making an effort to eat better, get exercise, and sleep well on a regular basis.

Stock Up on Healthy Snacks

When you get caught up in work, you just want to grab whatever is fastest and easiest.  Unfortunately, this means that your employees often rely on vending machines and nearby fast food places for lunch.  The best way to encourage your employees to eat better is by stocking up on healthy snacks and beverages.  Having fresh fruit and veggies on hand will make your employees more likely to reach for a nutritious snack.

Make it a Competition

One of the best ways to motivate your employees to take their health seriously is by turning it into a contest.  Create teams of employees and challenge the teams to lose the most weight collectively.  As extra incentive, offer prizes for the winning team members such as extra days off or extra long lunch breaks.  Once you offer incentive, you’ll find that your employees are much more willing to be healthier.

Try out these tips to encourage workplace wellness.  Want another way to care for your employees?  Then make sure you have them covered by the right commercial insurance.  To find the right policies to meet your needs, look to the experts at Moser Group Inc.  Located in New York, we are eager to assist with all your insurance needs.  Contact us to get started today.

Learn These Water Heater Maintenance Tasks

Learn These Water Heater Maintenance Tasks

Learn how to take care of your home’s water heater.

There’s nothing worse than having to take a cold shower in the dead of winter.  However, this could be your reality if you fail to take care of your water heater.  But what exactly does water heater maintenance entail?  Here are some tips that you should know to properly maintain your water heater.

Know Where It Is

While this may seem obvious, many homeowners don’t actually know where their water heater is.  Normally, the water heater is located in the garage or basement of the home.  Once you are able to locate your water heater, make sure that you can access it easily.  This means clearing away any obstacles that stand between you and the tank.  Be particularly careful to clear anything that blocks the plumbing leading to and from your water heater.

Know How to Turn Off Your Water

If you are faced with a sudden emergency, it might be necessary to turn off your water.  This might be especially necessary if you detect a gas leaks near your water heater or if your water heater starts to leak.  Luckily, shutting off your water is pretty straightforward.  All you have to do is locate the main water shut-off valve.  The valve is normally located on the pipes leading to your tank.  Once you locate it, simply turn it until you feel the valve close completely.

Know How to Inspect It

Finally, you should conduct a water heater inspection at least once a year.  During your inspection, pay close attention to the piping leading to and from your water heater.  Look for any signs of deterioration or extreme wear.  You should also look around your water heater for any signs of soot or black residue.  This is normally a sign that your water tank is experiencing combustion issues.  If you notice either of these issues, then call in a professional to make the necessary repairs.

Football Tailgate: Ensure Game Day Goes Off Without a Hitch with these Safety Tips

Have a ball at your football tailgate with these safety tips!

Football is back, and it’s time to watch your favorite team in action. As you get ready to pack up the car and head off to your tailgate, bear in mind these safety tips. That way you can ensure that you have a good time without any unfortunate mishaps. Here’s what you need to know about tailgating safely.

Be Wary of Food Temperatures.

Grilled meats, whether they be burgers or hot dogs, are a tailgate staple. However, without a refrigerator, you must be careful about storing the meats. Ensure that you pack a cooler with plenty of ice so that you can keep the meats cold. If it starts to get too warm or if the meat has been out to long, play it safe and toss it out. That way you won’t risk any nasty food poisoning as you try to watch the game.

Exercise Caution Around the Grill.

When you tailgate, you’re usually in a confined space. With dangers of kids running about and corn hole being played, it can be hard to ensure a safe perimeter around the grill. Use extreme caution when grilling. Be vigilant, keep little ones away from the grill, and have a fire extinguisher on hand. That way you can take control of a dangerous situations.

Have Fun Responsibly.

It’s inevitable to avoid alcohol at a football game. However, you don’t have to drink it. Bring plenty of alternative non-alcoholic drinks, and be vigilant of those around you, especially when driving. You never know who may be driving under the influence. Should you choose to drink while at the game, ensure that you do so responsibly. Don’t over do it, balance every drink with an equal amount of water, and always designate a driver, so that everyone can get home safely.

Insurance Coverage That You Need for Your Swimming Pool

Get the Insurance Coverage That You Need for Your Swimming Pool

Keep your property safe and invest in pool insurance.

Whether you already have a swimming pool, or if you’re thinking about installing one, there are a few things that you should know. In addition to figuring out what type of filter to buy and what pool accessories to invest in, you must first think about pool insurance. Despite their appeal, pools are considered to be “attractive nuisances.” Owning a pool comes with its fair share of liability. Protect your home and check out what you need to know about pool insurance.

Liability Coverage:

Your pool increases your liability risk. Should someone have an accident in or around your pool, with or without your permission, you can be found liable for the damage. Because of the higher risk of liability, your regular liability coverage may not give you a high enough limit. Invest in supplemental pool coverage so that you’re better able to get the coverage that you need. With a pool, it’s recommended that you have as much as $500,000 in liability coverage.

In-Ground vs. Above-Ground Pools:

Whether your pool is above-ground or in-ground, your homeowners insurance has several ways of looking at your pool. In-ground pools are often considered an extraneous structure, which is then covered under your homeowners insurance policy. However, not every insurer will consider it as such a structure. In those cases, you’re left without the coverage that you need. Plus, most policies charge you more for extraneous coverage. Above ground pools, on the other hand, are considered to be personal property since they originally came from a box. However, in either case, it’s a good idea to supplement your coverage with pool insurance so that you can rest easy knowing that your pool is well covered.

Keep your home as secure as can be and protect your property with pool insurance. Contact the insurance professionals at Moser Group Inc. Located in New York, our experienced, knowledgeable staff will help you meet all your personal and commercial insurance needs.

Tips to Stay Focused on the Road & Avoid Distracted Driving

Avoid Distracted Driving Dangers on the Road and Check Out These Tips to Stay Focused

Nix the distracted driving and put safety first with these tips.

It’s no surprise that distracted driving is on the rise. In an ever increasing age of technology, our mobile devices go everywhere with us, including the car. From texting, to eating, to daydreaming, there are lots of ways in which your focus is taken off the road. While it may not seem like a big deal, distracted driving is incredibly dangerous. Put safety first, and check out these tips to help you stay focused on the road.

Turn Your Phone Off.

It’s no secret that texting while driving is dangerous. However, talking on your phone, even while using a Bluetooth device can be just as distracting. Avoid the risk of cellphone-related disasters all together and turn off your cellphone. You can even stow it away in the glove box until you reach your destination. That way you won’t be tempted to reach for your phone while behind the wheel.

Come Prepared.

Inputting an address into your GPS or fiddling with your wallet to pay the toll, takes your focus off the road. Avoid such distractions and prepare ahead of time. Before you leave for a new destination, set up the GPS and have your money ready before you even start your engine. That way you can rest assured that your only concern on the road is driving safely.

Enlist the Help of You Passengers.

Having other people in the car can be dangerous as a deep conversation can easily distract you from the road. However, traveling with passengers can have its advantages. Have your passengers help you turn on the radio, text, or look up directions so that you’re free to drive safely.

Use these tips to stay focused and avoid distracted driving. For added protection, invest in the right auto insurance policy.
