Ask the Right Questions When Looking for Flood Insurance

Ask the Right Questions When Looking for Flood Insurance

Know what to ask your agent when looking for flood insurance.

Whether it’s a burst pipe or a raging winter storm, flooding can be detrimental to your home. While you may think that your homeowners insurance covers flooding, that’s not the case. You need flood insurance for water damage. Get the coverage that you need for water damage. Check out what you need to know about flood insurance and ask your agent these questions.

What Does Flood Insurance Cover?

Flood insurance gives you the coverage that you need to protect your home from rising water levels and mudflows. From mold removal to getting rid of debris, your coverage helps to give you the coverage that you need to repair your home after the damage is done.

Are There Any Coverage Gaps?

Keep in mind that while flood insurance is extremely helpful in a bind, it has its limitations. Once the coverage limits have been exceeded, you’re responsible for the difference. Additionally, it only covers the structure of your home and only a few basement essentials. Your personal belongings are also at risk. While you’ll receive some coverage for your personal possessions, know that it’s extremely limited. Also, flood insurance only covers floods. If there’s any damage done by land movement, you’re not covered.

How Do I Protect My Home from a Storm?

Taking preventative measures is a must when it comes to minimizing damage and protecting your home. When a storm is coming, take the necessary precautions such as purchasing sandbags, and moving personal belongings above ground level. Additionally, it’s a good idea to take a home inventory so that if you do need to file a claim with your insurer, you’ll be ready to go.

Ways Your Business Can Go Green & Save Money

Check Out These Ways Your Business Can Go Green & Save Money!

Implement environmentally sustainable practices into your business to save money.

Going green has its benefits. Not only does it help to improve your business image and support environmental conservation efforts, but they can help your business to save quite a bit of money. Help your business incorporate more environmentally sustainable business practices. Check out these ways that you can go green at the office.

Switch Out Your Light Fixtures.

Nowadays you can save energy just by switching out your light bulbs. Traditional bulbs have been remodeled. Compact fluorescent bulbs use significantly less energy to light up your workspace. Plus, they last longer too. That means you’ll have a lower energy bill and will have to change the bulbs less frequently.

Upgrade to Energy Efficient Appliances.

You’re sure to have an appliance or two when it comes to your office space. The next time you need to replace an appliance, get an Energy Star-approved appliance. That way your machines will be more efficient, which will help you to save time and money.

Use Less Paper.

Technology has made great progress in the past few decades. Move your company’s focus to a more digital business practice. That way you’ll use less paper, which means you’ll be spending less money on materials. If you absolutely must use paper, try switching to post-consumer waste (PCW) brands so that you can be sure that they are recycled.

Encourage Telecommunication.

Working from home is easier than ever. Not only is it an added perk for employees, but it helps the environment and saves you money. Letting your employees telecommute means that they won’t have to drive to the office, which helps to reduce contributions to air pollution. Additionally, you won’t have to pay to keep your office open. Therefore, you can save money on your utility bills. It’s a win-win-win!

When it comes to your business practices, go green. They’ll help to improve your business and save you money. Don’t forget to protect your business with the right business insurance. Why You Need Event Insurance for All Your Summer Occasions

Hosting a Special Event this Summer? Check Out Why You Need Event Insurance

Protect your special events with the right insurance.

Along with the warm, sunny weather, summer brings a variety of activities and events. From weddings to outdoor concerts to company barbecues, hosting an event this summer is exciting. However, it also comes with lots of responsibility. You need event insurance to keep your event well protected. Check out why you need event insurance for all your summertime special occasions.

Liability Risk.

Hosting an event comes with enormous responsibility. If anything goes wrong, you’re the go-to person. From property damage to injuries, you could be liable as the event host. Fortunately, event insurance can give you the necessary coverage to help offset expensive legal fees and medical bills. Additionally, if you’re planning on serving alcohol at your event, you want all your bases covered. Bartenders and caterers don’t always have the insurance that they should. Invest in an added liquor liability policy to protect yourself from any issues down the line.

Cancellations.

Life doesn’t always go to plan. For one reason or another, you may have to cancel your event. However, if you’re too close to the date of the event, it may be too late to get your deposits back. That’s where event insurance comes in. It can help to reimburse you for lost monies due to a cancellation.

Workers’ Compensation.

You can’t host an event without a well-trained staff. With lots of lifting heavy objects and climbing ladders to hang decorations, the event staff has a dangerous job. Give them the protection that they need, and invest in an event insurance policy. In some cases, it can help to give event staff the workers’ compensation they need to get the right medical treatment.

Keep your summertime occasions running smoothly with the right event insurance. Contact the insurance professionals at Moser Group Inc. Located in New York, our experienced, knowledgeable staff will help you meet all your personal and commercial insurance needs.

Make Time for a Break.

Anti-Burglary Tips To Protect Your Home While You're Away

Protect Your Home While You’re Away with These Anti-Burglary Tips

Keep your home safe while you’re on vacation with these tips.

Vacation season is here. With beautiful weather and time off from school, it’s the perfect time to take a vacation. As you’re packing your bags and putting the finishing touches on your getaway, don’t forget to take precautions to secure your home. Your home is at a greater risk for burglaries when you’re out of town. Protect your home while you’re away with these home safety tips.

  • Turn the lights on. A well-lit home tells burglars that someone is home. Set your lights on a timer so that they’ll go on and off, even when you’re not home.
  • Make friends with the neighbors. It’s good to have neighbors that you can count on when you’re away. From keeping an eye on your home to picking up your mail, ask your neighbors to help you out while you’re away.
  • Be wary of your newspapers and mail. A driveway full of papers and a mailbox full of letters, are tell-tale signs that you’re out of town. Have your mail taken care of while you’re away to reduce your chances of a burglary.
  • Avoid posting on social media. Posting your travel plans on social media can alert burglars that your home is empty. Hold off on posting on social media until you return from your trip.
  • Double check that all the doors are locked. It may seem like common sense to lock up, but with all the stress of preparing for a trip, it can be overlooked. Walk through your home before you leave so that you know that everything is ready to go.

When it comes to keeping your home safe while you’re on vacation, take precautions to protect your home and invest in homeowners insurance. How to Save on Your Business Insurance Costs

Find Out How to Save on Your Business Insurance Costs

Learn how to save on your business insurance costs.

Protecting your business is one of the smartest moves you can make as a business owner. However, with all the different types of insurance, getting the coverage you need can be expensive. Check out these ways to save on your business insurance costs.

Bundling.

Chances are you likely need more than one policy to safeguard your business. Rather than taking out two separate policies at two different institutions, buy all your policies from the same insurer. Since your bringing more business to the company, you may qualify for a discount. Just remember to crunch all the numbers before making the switch.

Increasing Your Deductible.

Insurance is a safeguard to protect you in case something happens. However, most of us aren’t regularly filing a claim with our insurance companies. That means we pay more for peace of mind. However, if you’re comfortable with paying a higher deductible, you could save on your monthly insurance premium. Just keep in mind if you do need to file a claim, you will have to pay more before your policy takes effect.

Take Preventative Measures.

Reduce your risk of having an accident by implementing safety practices in your workplace. Create a business continuity plan, be prepared for disasters, and keep up on your building maintenance. When you have a lower risk of experiencing damage, you avoid expensive losses.

Conduct an Annual Review.

Meet with your insurance agent regularly. Review your coverage at least annually so that you can verify that you still have the coverage that you need. Talk about what’s essential and whether or not you can tweak your policy. Your agent might just be able to help you find ways to save.

Reduce your business insurance costs with help from the right agency. Contact the insurance professionals at Moser Group Inc. Located in New York, our experienced, knowledgeable staff help you meet all your personal and commercial insurance needs.

Grilling Safety Tips For Your Memorial Day Barbecue

Having a Memorial Day Barbecue? Stay Safe with These Grilling Safety Tips

Here are some grilling safety tips so that you can enjoy your Memorial Day barbecue!

Memorial Day is coming up. Enjoy the long weekend with a festive barbecue. But, before you start grilling, brush up on your grilling safety. Barbecues can be extremely dangerous. In fact, they account for thousands of insurance every year. Stay safe and find out how to avoid any grilling accidents.

  • Don’t grill indoors. Barbecues can release toxic chemical gases into the air. When you grill indoors or in poorly ventilated spaces, you increase your risk of disaster. Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning and always grill outside.
  • Keep the barbecue away from anything flammable. Your home, your patio furniture, your garage, and your vegetation are all flammable materials. Move your barbecue so that it’s at least ten feet away from flammable items.
  • Grease is not your friend. When you grill meat on a barbecue, it drips fat and grease which builds up and can lead to a fire. Don’t put too many items on the grill and clean the grill before and after each use to reduce your risk of starting a grease fire.
  • Stay near the barbecue while it’s in use. Leaving the grill unattended is extremely dangerous. It only takes a few seconds for a fire to break out. And it’s important to keep curious kids and pets away from the barbecue.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher handy. If the flames do get out of hand, a fire extinguish can be a big help. However, at the first sight of flames, call the fire department and safely evacuate the area to prevent any injuries.

Keep your backyard barbecue safe from any grilling disasters. For added peace of mind, protect your home from fire damage with homeowners insurance.
